CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced its cross country and tennis atheltes of the week for their performances during the week of Sept. 26 - Oct. 2. The women's tennis 2016 regular season has come to an end and the SUNYAC championship is set for Oct. 8-10, at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
Cross Country Male Runner of the WeeK
Isaac Garcia-Cassani, Geneseo
(Junior, - Holbrook, N.Y.)
Garcia-Cassani notched his third-straight victory of the season, winning the 36th-Annual Mike Woods Invitational on Saturday. He covered the 8-kilometer course in a time of 24:39.5, besting the 315-runner field by over 16 seconds to lead Geneseo to first place out of 24 teams.
Cross Country Female Runner of the Week
Mary Baughman, Cortland
(Sr., - Rush, N.Y. (Rush-Henrietta))
Baughman finished 22nd out of 373 runners in the Brown Division of the Lehigh University Paul Short Run with a time of 21 minutes, 39 seconds over a 6,000-meter course. She was the 10th highest Division III finisher, and her effort helped Cortland finish 16th overall and eighth among Division III schools in the final team standings.
Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Jacqueline Ciriello/Sierra Barrett, Plattsburgh
(Sr./Fr., - Mahopac, N.Y./Beekmantown, N.Y.)
The duo of Jacqueline Ciriello and Sierra Barrett won all three doubles matches against Johnson State, Oswego and Utica College over the weekend. Ciriello and Barrett's wins helped the Cardinals earn their ninth win of the season, a mark that was last reached in 2011 for Plattsburgh.
Women's Tennis Singles Athlete of the Week
Samantha Felice, Oneonta
(Junior, 6th singles - Seneca Falls, NY)
Felice was a perfect 3-0 for Oneonta last week in helping to lead the Red Dragons to a 2-1 record overall including a 4-2 win against Cortland to secure the #2 seed in the East. Felice won all of her matches in straight sets including the lone win against a strong Hamilton squad.
