SUNYAC selects weekly awards for ice hockey and basketball
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has picked its athletes of the week for ice hockey and basketball based off of performances during the week of November 28 - December 4. Five athletes from five institutions were honored.
Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week - Jonathan Patron, Plattsburgh
(So, F - Huntington, N.Y.)
Patron averaged a double-double per game (23.0 ppg, 11.7 rpg) in a 2-1 week for the Cardinals. He shot 50.9 percent (17-of-36) from the floor on the week and also averaged 2.3 assists per game and one steal per game. He scored 27 points and shot 57.1 percent (12-of-21) from the field in a 91-73 loss to St. Lawrence University on Tuesday. On Friday, he scored 15 points and added 13 rebounds and three steals in Plattsburgh's 87-80 SUNYAC-opening win over Buffalo State. Finally, on Saturday, he drained 27 points off 11-of-20 shooting from the floor in the Cardinals' 75-57 victory over Fredonia.
Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week - Jenna Einink, Fredonia
(So, F - Westfield, N.Y.)
Einink averaged 18.0 points in three games. Her SUNYAC weekend included 17 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and 4 steals in a victory over Potsdam, as well as her second double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds vs. Plattsburgh. She is averaging 18.1 points and 7.9 rebounds in seven games. The Blue Devils are 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week - Shawn Hulshof, Oswego

Hulshof recorded a five point weekend to lead the Lakers in their two wins over conference opponent, Morrisville. The senior started off by assisting on the eventual game-winning goal on Friday. Later on, Hulshof tallied the final two goals of the contest to provide plenty of insurance to Oswego's 4-1 win. On Saturday, Hulshof tallied another goal, scoring the Lakers' fifth of the day. He would complete his weekend by assisting on the final goal of the game in Oswego's 8-1 win.
Ice Hockey Goalie of the Week - Mike DeLavergne, Buffalo State

DeLaVergne continued his dominance between the pipes, backstopping the Bengals to a 3-0 week with a .962 save percentage and a 1.00 goals against average. The senior made 27 saves in a 4-1 win over No. 4 Geneseo on Saturday. He had 22 stops in a 4-1 win at Brockport on Friday, and turned aside 27 of 28 shots in a 5-1 win at Nazareth on Tuesday.
Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week - Chris Bastone, Cortland
(Fr, G - Greenwich, CT)
In just his second career start, Bastone turned aside 45 shots as Cortland skated to a 2-2 overtime tie versus Nazareth College Saturday night in non-conference action. The only goals he surrendered were a rebound goal in the second period and an extra-attacker goal with 50 seconds remaining in regulation. He recorded a 1.85 GAA and a .957 save percentage. For the season, Bastone has posted a 1-0-1 record with a 2.40 GAA and a .932 save percentage.
