BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport Athletics Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Danielle Drews as the Assistant Director of Athletics beginning in July of 2017. Drews will bring a wealth of experience to the department, having served as the Director of Athletics and Recreation at The Sage College's since 2005.
"We are very excited to have Danielle join the Brockport Athletics family," said Brockport director of athletics Erick Hart. "She brings a plethora knowledge and experience that will have an immediate and positive impact in enhancing the Brockport Athletics program."
While serving as Athletic Director at Sage, Drews oversaw a successful expansion in the department that increased the number of athletic programs from five to fifteen in 2012. The expansion added nearly 150 student-athletes to the Sage student body, resulting in an increase of over $1,000,000 in tuition revenue. With the increase in student-athletes, she's also grown the full-time staff from five when she began in 2005 to 17 by August of 2018.
The growth of Sage Athletics under Drews came not only in quantity of programs, but in quality as well. She orchestrated the renovation of a number of athletics facilities, including two campus fitness centers, two varsity gymnasiums, and an athletic center training room. She also created "Sage Nation", an athletics booster club designed to connect with former student-athletes.
Since 2013, Drews has been a member of the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Committee, including a two-year stretch as Committee Chair between 2014-2016. During that time she was responsible for the administration of the NCAA DIII Championship tournament, and also provided oversight for the regional and national ranking committees.
Drews also has experience in the SUNYAC conference, having served a 14-year stint at SUNY Oswego prior to being hired at Sage. Between 1991 and 2000, she acted as Sports Information Director and Head Volleyball Coach before transitioning to an Assistant Athletic Director position in 2000. Her duties included scheduling, transportation, home event management, and compliance with conference and NCAA policies.
As a coach, the Oswego volleyball team saw tremendous success under Drews, earning their first NCAA berth in 1994 after a program-best 42-4 season. She was recognized as SUNYAC Coach of the Year twice in 1991 and 1994, and NYSWCAA Volleyball Coach of the Year in 1994.
A 1988 graduate of Hamilton College, Drews was a three-time captain and four-year competitor in both volleyball and softball. She led the volleyball team to three-straight NYSWCAA tournament appearances, and set a school record in softball, going undefeated from the pitching rubber to help her team to the second most wins in school history. She then went on to receive a Master's Degree from the University of Connecticut before beginning her career at Oswego.
