Brockport and Oneonta move on to men's basketball semifinals

Brockport and Oneonta won first round games to move on to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's basketball semifinals, Friday hosted by top-seeded Oswego. Brockport will take on No. 2 Plattsburgh at 5:30 p.m. while Oneonta will take on No. 1 Oswego at 7:30 p.m.

In Cortland, after a close few minutes the Red Dragons of Oneonta controlled the game all the way to the finish and would win 84-71 over Cortland. The game was tied at 9 a piece when Oneonta would go on a 10-0 run. It was from this point on that Oneonta would continue their lead throughout the first half, going up by as many as 19 points. At the end of the first half, Oneonta led Cortland 43-26. Cortland held Oneonta scoreless for the first four minutes of the second half and would eventually close the gap to 45-41. However, the effort from Cortland would not be enough as Oneonta held on to their lead and extended it further throughout the second half. Oneonta had five players score double digit points all while being led by Joseph Bull's (Bronx, N.Y.) game-high 26 points. It was a battle of the Red Dragons and Oneonta would come out on top.

In Brockport, the Golden Eagles would be victorious at home over the Potsdam Bears 94-88. The win would come behind freshman Danny Ashley's (Uniondale, N.Y.) career and game-high 34 point performance. A back and forth first half is how this matchup would start with the teams being tied 18-18 midway through the first half. Brockport would soon pull away and lead Potsdam by eight at the half 42-34. The second half would be all Brockport who would lead by as many as 13 points. The Golden Eagles were too much for the Bears and that would see Potsdam fall to the home team.
