Plattsburgh sweeps PrestoSports Men's Soccer Weekly Awards

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selects Cole Weiner (Saint James, N.Y.) and Joe Gula (New Market, M.D.) as this weeks PrestoSports Athletes of the Week. Weiner earned himself the Offensive Athlete of the Week, Gula takes home Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Freshman forward Weiner assisted on the game-tying goal in a 2-1 win at Geneseo on Friday and scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at Brockport on Saturday to help Plattsburgh men's soccer to a 2-0-0 record on the week. With time winding down and Plattsburgh trailing Geneseo 1-0 on Friday, Weiner assisted on the game-tying goal that was scored with 18 seconds left in regulation to tie the match at 1-1. The Cardinals went on to complete a 2-1 come-from behind victory in double overtime. Against Brockport on Saturday, Weiner took a pass, dribbled into the 18-yard box and scored on a low shot inside the right post in the 77th minute for his first career game-winning goal as Plattsburgh went on to win 1-0. 

Senior defender Gula helped Plattsburgh men's soccer to a 2-0-0 record on the week, as the Cardinals moved into a points tie with SUNY Oneonta for first place in the SUNYAC. Gula began the week by scoring the game-winning goal in Plattsburgh's 2-1 win at SUNY Geneseo on Friday. With nine seconds remaining in the second overtime period, Gula coralled a corner kick in the 18-yard box and quickly fired a right-footed strike into the upper-right corner for his first career game-winning goal in the 110th minute. On Saturday, Gula was part of a defensive unit that shut out The College at Brockport in a 1-0 win.
