CORTLAND, N.Y. - The 2019 women's lacrosse conference champions, the Brockport Golden Eagles, were voted No. 1 in the 2020 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) preseason coaches poll with 75 points. Geneseo was ranked second with 73 points, while Cortland was third totaling 71 points.
In 2019, Brockport captured its first-ever SUNYAC women's lacrosse title as the third seed (7-2) and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The team ended its season with an overall record of 16-5, which is the most victories in program history. Head coach Stephen Wagner was named the 2019 SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Year after leading his team to a record breaking season and coaching six athletes to All-Conference status, including the 2019 Rookie of the Year, Allison Jennings.
Second in the 2020 rankings, Geneseo was undefeated in conference play (9-0) in 2019 which earned them the top seed and the right to host the SUNYAC final four. Hannah Marafioti was named the SUNYAC Offensive Player of the Year last season and was one of nine Geneseo players that earned All-Conference recognition. The Knights ended the 2019 season in the SUNYAC finals with an overall record of 14-5. The Geneseo women's lacrosse team will look to take its first-ever SUNYAC title in 2020.
Cortland went 8-1 in conference play to earn the second-seed going into the 2019 championship. The Red Dragons lost to Brockport in the semifinals, 17-12, finishing their season 11-6 overall. In 2020, Cortland will look to capture its 21st SUNYAC title overall and first since 2018. Five Red Dragons were named to the SUNYAC All-Conference team in 2019.
