CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selects Seaver Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) from Oneonta and Kayla Usborne (Madison, N.Y.) from Brockport as this week's PrestoSports Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week. Lipshie as a midfielder earned the Offensive Athlete of the week and Usborne as a goalkeeper takes home this week's Defensive Athlete of the Week.
In their only game of the week, the Oneonta women's soccer team defeated Vassar College, 3-2, thanks to a pair of goals from Lipshie. Lipshie broke a scoreless tie in the 23rd minute when she finished off a cross from teammate Christina Kornfeld. Lipshie scored the eventual game-winner in the 55th minute on a free kick that put the Red Dragons ahead, 3-1. The goals for Lipshie on Saturday were her first two of the season, as she is tied with two other players for the team lead. Lipshie also didn't receive any yellow or red cards, further aiding her team in a close win over Vassar College.
Usborne, a rookie, debuted for the Brockport women's soccer team against Alfred last week, getting her first career start in net. The first year goalkeeper did not allow a single goal, helping the team earn a 0-0 draw on the road. She played the full 110 minutes making seven saves, including a key stop off an Alfred corner kick late in the second overtime period. Usborne posted an impressive perfect save percentage (1.000) in her first start for the Golden Eagles.
