SUNYAC presents women's swimming and diving annual awards

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is honored to announce the 2019 SUNYAC women's swimming and diving annual awards. Each year the conference coaches vote on the SUNYAC Swimmer of the Year, Diver of the Year, and Rookie of the Year after the NCAA championships. 

Swimmer of the Year: Deidra Osula, Geneseo 
 
This year, Geneseo sophomore Deidra Osula (Fredonia, N.Y.) had a record breaking season and her success led her to be voted SUNYAC Swimmer of the Year. During the 2019 SUNYAC swimming and diving championships Osula broke both the meet and conference records in the 50 freestyle touching the wall in :23.35. She won the 100 butterfly during the meet. She was also a member of the 200 freestyle relay team that broke the meet and conference records in a time of 1:34.90. Osula was honored with the Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet award at the 2019 SUNYAC swimming and diving championships. She was named to the 2019 SUNYAC Women's Swimming and Diving All-Conference first team. At NCAA's she was seventh in the 50 freestyle breaking the conference record that she set three weeks prior with the time of 23.26. She came in 22nd in the 100 butterfly with a new conference record of 56.33 and 12th in the 100 freestyle (:52.22). Osula earned her first All-American honors during the 2019 NCAA Division III swimming and diving championships.        
 
Diver of the Year: Samantha Reichman, Geneseo
 
Capping off her junior year, Samantha Reichman (Cornwall, N.Y.) has been named SUNYAC Diver of the Year. Reichman was named SUNYAC Diver of the Week four times this season. During the 2019 SUNYAC swimming and diving championships Reichman won the 3-meter dive, with a score of 537.45 and the 1-meter dive (497.55). With her 1-meter performance this year, Samantha is now the SUNYAC meet record holder in the event. Based on her dominating performances in both events, she earned Outstanding Diver of the Meet at the SUNYAC championships. Reichman also earned a spot on the 2019 SUNYAC women's swimming and diving All-Conference first team. She placed second on both boards at the NCAA regional meet. Reichman is now a two-time All-American honoree after she went on to finish fifth in the 3-meter dive and eighth in the 1-meter at the NCAA championships.
   
 
  
Rookie of the Year: Julia Torell, Cortland
 
Cortland's Julia Torell (Camillus, N.Y.) has been named the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year. As a freshman, Torell earned a spot on the 2019 women's swimming and diving All-Conference first team. During the 2019 SUNYAC swimming and diving championships, Torell placed first in the 200 butterfly setting a new meet and conference record at 2:06.74. She placed third in the 100 butterfly touching the wall at :57.73 (:57.32 prelims). She also came in sixth in the 100 backstroke at 1:00.54. In the 400 freestyle relay she split a :54.07 and in the 200 medley relay she had a time of :26.07 in the butterfly leg. She finished with a time of :56.91 in the butterfly leg of the 400 medley relay and :24.46 in the 200 freestyle relay.
