CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected the recipients for its weekly women's tennis awards. Plattsburgh freshman Rukshanna Abdeen has been picked as the Singles Athlete of the Week, while Fredonia sophomore Sarah Bunk and freshman Mikayla Johnson are the Doubles Team of the Week.
Rukshanna Abdeen won both of her No. 1 singles matches this past weekend in conference play. On Saturday she beat Cortland's Mia Hayes 6-3, 6-1 and the next day beat OSwego's Bridget Bender 6-0, 6-1. Abdeen is now 5-1 in singles one. Abdeen also swept her second doubles with partner Sierra Barrett. The duo beat Cortland 8-1 on Saturday and took down Oswego 8-2 on Sunday. The Cardinals are now 2-1 in the SUNYAC.
Bunk and Johnson combined for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles vs. Thiel, and 8-5 at No. 1 doubles vs. Geneseo, to remain unbeaten this season. Bunk is 7-0 this season and 15-1 as a collegiate doubles player. Johnson is 6-0 in her first season as a Blue Devil.
