Conrad Ziemendorf Earns National Co-Hitter of the Week Award
Cortland junior outfielder Conrad Ziemendorf (Penfield/Webster Schroeder) has been selected as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA) Division III National Co-Hitter of the Week for the week ending April 19.
Ziemendorf shared the award with Alvernia College's Ben Sawyer. In six games during the week, Ziemendorf batted .632 (12-for-19) with two homers, four doubles, one triple, 14 RBI and 13 runs scored. He registered a .741 on-base percentage and 1.263 slugging percentage.
He opened the week by going 3-for-5 with a double, triple, four RBI, three runs and hit-by-pitch in a 15-2 win at Fredonia. The next day Ziemendorf reached base in all six plate appearances (homer, single, three walks, HBP), drove in three and scored three times in a 12-0 win at Fredonia.
In a three-game sweep of Oneonta at home, Ziemendorf was a combined 7-for-11 with a homer, three doubles, seven RBI and six runs. He went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI in a 21-3 win and finished 2-for-4 with a homer, double, two RBI and two runs in a 13-0 victory.
Ziemendorf is currently batting .359 with two homers and team highs of 11 doubles, 31 RBI and 33 runs scored in 29 games played.
Cortland (29-2, 14-1 SUNYAC) is ranked first nationally by both D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association. The Red Dragons have clinched the SUNYAC regular-season title for the 19th straight season and will host the league's four-team postseason tournament May 1-3. Cortland concludes the SUNYAC regular season with a three-game series at Plattsburgh that has been moved to Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday starting at noon each day.
