New Paltz Wins First-Ever SUNYAC Field Hockey Title
SUNY New Paltz clinches its first-ever State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Field Hockey title Saturday on the Turf Field in New Paltz.
The championship game went into a shootout where the Hawks came out ahead, 2-0, over the Cortland Red Dragons. This was the first time the SUNYAC Field Hockey Championship Tournament contest went to a shootout. This game also marked New Paltz's first-ever win over Cortland.
With the win, the Hawks also earned their first-ever automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament.
Junior goalkeeper Antonija Pjetri was named the Tournament MVP for her dominance throughout the game, making 13 stops throughout regulation and overtime before holding the Red Dragons scoreless in the shootout.
