Oswego Captures 2013 SUNYAC Men's Ice Hockey Title

Oswego State defeated Plattsburgh State, 4-0, to claim the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Ice Hockey title Saturday at Oswego's Campus Center Ice Arena.
With Oswego's win, the men's ice hockey team qualifies for an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament. This is Oswego's ninth SUNYAC title. The last time Oswego won the SUNYAC Men's Ice Hockey title was in 2010.
The Lakers ended the season No. 1 in the SUNYAC conference (14-2, 22-4) to earn a bye into the semifinals where they defeated No. 4 Buffalo State 5-2 to move on to the Championship game.
Oswego lost to Plattsburgh State by one the two times they faced off during regular season play (1-2 and 3-4).
In the first period with 4:48 left, the first strike came from Oswego. Tyler Leimbrock scored by an assist from David Titanic and Matt Singleton.
In the second period, Oswego struck again. Just 1:31 into the second period, Oswego scored. Luke Moodie scored with an assist by Chris Brown and Jon Whitelaw.
The third period produced even more action for Oswego. The third goal for the Oswego Lakers came again from Luke Moodie. Moodie scored on an assist from Chris Muise and Chris Brown with 7:54 into the third period.
At 9:20 left in the third period, Plattsburgh pulled their goalie. With 6:01 left in the third period, Jon Whitelaw scored on the empty net. Whitelaw was assisted by Paul Rodrigues and Jesse McConney.
Oswego had 33 shots on goal compared to Plattsburgh's 30. Plattsburgh had 7 penalties during the game while Oswego had 8.
Osweg's Andrew Hare had a phenomenal game in goal. He had 30 saves during the game, allowing no goals by the Plattsburgh Cardinals. Plattsburgh's goalie, Mathieu Cadieux had 29 saves.
Oswego will soon find out who they will face in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Tournament.
