Fontana Tabbed 2026 SUNYAC Men's Ice Hockey Scholar Athlete of the Year
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC recognizes Hobart's Kahlil Fontana as its 2026 Men's Ice Hockey Scholar Athlete of the Year. This award is nominated and voted on by the conference sports information directors. Recipients are at least a sophomore, hold a 3.30 GPA or higher and display academic and athletic excellence as a starter or significant reserve player.
At forward, Fontana scored 21 goals and collected 21 assists for a total of 42 points in 31 games for the Statesmen this season. He had a season high four goals vs. Skidmore November 14. The team finished the 2025-26 season as the national runner-up which was the only loss on the season. The team was 30-1-0 with eighteen wins in conference play. Fontana was an AHCA All-American East First Team selection and a finalist for the SID Watson Award this season. He finished the year 13th in the nation in goals per game (0.68) and 18th in points per game. He was seventh in power play goals (7) and ninth in game-winning goals (4). He was a 2026 All-SUNYAC first team selection. Last year he earned the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Award.
Fontana is a senior management and entrepreneurship major with a 3.92 overall GPA. He has been named an AHCA All-American Scholar three times and earned NEHC All-Academic praise three times. Fontana has been a dean's list student every semester. He is a member of the Druid Society, Hobart's senior honor society. Fontana was a three-time national champion and was team captain as a senior.
