SUNYAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced its weekly award winners for men's and women's outdoor track and field.
Men's Outdoor Track & Field - Field Athlete of the Week - Dawan Jones, Cortland
(Jr., - Buffalo, N.Y.)
Jones finished second of 31 in the triple jump and fourth of 45 in the long jump at the TCNJ Invitational. His triple jump of 14.78 meters (48' 6") currently ranks first nationally in Division III. His long jump of 6.83 meters (22' 5") and his triple jump are both ECAC qualifiers.
Men's Outdoor Track & Field – Track Athlete of the Week - Mitch Ryan, Cortland
(Sr., - Plattsburgh, N.Y.)
Ryan finished fifth overall out of 21 runners, and was the top collegiate finisher, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Princeton University Sam Howell Invitational. His time of 9:10.73 currently ranks first nationally in Division III and is an ECAC qualifier.
Women's Outdoor Track & Field – Field Athlete of the Week - Alexa Wandy, Geneseo
(Sr., Horizontal Jumps - LaGrangeville, N.Y.)
Wandy posted the top long jump in Division III this season, posting a jump of 5.99 meters (19-8) to win the event at the Nazareth ROC City Classic, Sunday. The mark also broke a 32-year old SUNYAC record a week after breaking a 19-year old conference record with the nation's longest triple jump of the season. During the meet, Wandy also won the 100 (12.39) with a time that ranks 36th nationally and also added a leg to the winning 4x400 (3:58.49) that currently ranks 15th.
Women's Outdoor Track & Field – Track Athlete of the Week - Mackenzie Ross, Geneseo
(Sr., Mid-Distance - Baldwinsville, N.Y.)
Ross took first in the 800m at the Nazareth ROC City Classic on Sunday. The senior posted a time of 2:14.40, marking the fastest time in the conference this season and the 13th-fastest in NCAA Division III so far this year.
