Buffalo State women's soccer team participates in Fight for Air Climb to raise money for American Lung Association
Buffalo State's women's soccer team participated in the third annual Fight for Air Climb on March 14 with the team from KC's Fitness to raise money for the American Lung Association of the Northeast.
The event requires participants to compete in what is sometimes called a “vertical road race,” climbing hundreds of steps to the 37thfloor of One Seneca Tower in downtown Buffalo.
The team dedicated this year's climb to John Schmitz, who is terminally ill with lung cancer and is the uncle of a recent transfer to Buffalo State's women's soccer team, Jenna Smolinski. This year's event raised more than $112,000, including more than $4,300 from the Bengals and the team from KC's Fitness.
The fastest finisher from the current Bengals' squad was freshman defender Paige Bly, who completed the climb in just 5:53.5, which was good for 36th overall out of 363 total climbers. Head coach Nicholas DeMarsh placed 122nd (7:22.1).
