SUNYAC Releases 2025 Field Hockey Annual Awards
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC announces its 2025 field hockey annual awards including Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coaching Staff of the Year and All-Conference teams as voted on by the six conference coaches.
Offensive Player of the Year - Marli McDorman, Salisbury
McDorman led the league with 17 points (7 goals, 3 assists) in regular season conference play. So far in 2025, she has 44 points overall with 17 goals and 10 assists. McDorman was named the SUNYAC Tournament MVP after scoring three goals and adding three assits to help the Sea Gulls capture the 2025 SUNYAC field hockey title. McDorman and her team will advance to the NCAA Division III tournament where they will face Denison at home in the first round.
Defensive Player of the Year - Madelyn Reed, Salisbury
Reed led the Sea Gulls defense that allowed just 10 goals total and kept their opponents to 5.2 shots-per game. Reed was named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team after Salisbury won the 2025 conference crown. The Sea Gulls will host Denison in the NCAA first round on November 12.
Rookie of the Year - Kaylee Hughen, Cortland
In her first season, Hughen was named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament team after she helped lead the Cortland Red Dragons to the SUNYAC championship game. The team, ranked No. 3, defeated No. 2 New Paltz, 2-1, in overtime in the semifinals to advance to the final. Hughen was selected to the All-SUNYAC first team. She started all 19 games for Cortland in her rookie season where the team finished 8-11 overall.
Coaching Staff of the Year - Salisbury
The Salisbury field hockey head coach Dawn Chamberlin and her coaching staff Lindsey Barbacow, Brooke Tapman Lohr, Megan Block and Hanna Tilghman led their team to the No. 1 seed going into conference post season play. The Sea Gulls went on to win the SUNYAC championship title in their first year competing in the conference. The staff coached seven SUNYAC All-Conference team selections including the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year. The Sea Gulls will advance to the NCAA Division III field hockey tournament for the 40th time in program history and will compete for it's sixth national championship title (1986, 2003, '04, '05, '09). Salisbury is 17-2 overall going into NCAA tournament play.
