Three SUNYAC Athletes Awarded ECAC Player of the Week Honors
The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has come out with their player of the week awards for the week ending April 13. Three State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) athletes were awarded with this honor. Two Oswego State baseball players were honored this week as Tim Smith won player of the week, while teammate Brendyn Karinchak won co-pitcher of the week. Ryan Duffy of Potsdam once again gets the nod as defensive player of the week for the Division III Upstate region. Congratulation goes out to all three athletes on a job well done.
Tim Smith—SUNY Oswego
Senior, Infield, Auburn, NY
Smith led the Lakers at the plate in a 3-1 week, including an upset of No. 4/5 Cortland on Wednesday. The senior batted .529 on the week, driving in seven runs while scoring four himself. He was a perfect 4-for-4 in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader with Oneonta and 3-for-5 against the nationally-ranked Cortland Red Dragons.
Brendyn Karinchak – SUNY Oswego
Junior, Walden, NY
Â
Karinchak threw a complete-game one-hitter to help the Lakers outlast Oneonta for a 2-1 win on Friday. The junior struck out 13 Red Dragon batters on the day without allowing a single walk. It is the third-straight game that Karinchak has gone at least nine innings on the mound. He holds a 1.42 ERA on the year, allowing just two earned runs in his last four outings.
Ryan Duffy – Potsdam State
Senior, Goalkeeper, Liverpool, NY
Â
Duffy had the strongest week of his collegiate career. He stopped 40 of 54 shots for .741 save percentage and posted a 7.12 goals-against-average in two crucial SUNYAC victories. On Wednesday night, Duffy posted a career-high 19 saves as the Bears downed Plattsburgh 8-7 for Potsdam's first win over the Cardinals in four years. The senior was even better with 21 saves in a 10-8 victory at Brockport on Saturday.
