CHESTER, PA.—SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse player Peyton Walsh (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) has been chosen to play in this year's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Senior All-Star Game on Friday. Widener University in Chester, Pa. will host the contest.
Peyton Walsh had a career year, leading the SUNYAC in scoring with 68 points and ranking third in goals with 49. The attackman established a new program mark with 141 goals, passing Bears Hall of Famer Joe Schoener '84. He is also tied for second all-time in points with 192. Walsh was first team All-SUNYAC this season and second team last year. Walsh broke Schoener's record and scored the playoff clinching goal in an 11-10 overtime win at Brockport on April 27.
Walsh is the 14th Bear to be selected to the all-star game. All-American Josh Huiatt represented the program in 2021. Colby Chapman claimed the honor in 2019 and Eric Soderquist represented the Bears in 2018. Pat Bonafede participated in the 2016 contest. The trio of All-American and Hall of Famer Ryan Duffy, Jeff Love and Rob Kunz played together in 2014. The late Shane Lynch was the first Potsdam player to participate in 1992, followed by Jamie Schmidt in 1997 and Joe Zech in 1999. Bears Hall of Famer Jed Hammill played in 2003. All-American and Hall of Famer Ryan Hanretty was between the pipes in 2005 and Brett Wenzel was selected in 2008. Potsdam four-time SUNYAC Coach of the Year Rick Berkman was on the North's Coaching Staff in 2005 and captained the Southern team as a player in 1991 after being named a first team All-American at Salisbury State University.
The USILA Senior All-Star games allow senior student-athletes to finish their collegiate career and carry on a tradition that started in 1940. The games have been played every year with the exception of 1944 and 1945. The Division III and Division I/II contests will bring together the finest senior men's lacrosse players in the country.
