ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The United Soccer Coaches announced its 2024 Division III Men's All-Americans and Oneonta men's soccer senior Ali Somow (Utica, N.Y./Proctor) was one of 50 players to receive recognition. Somow was named to the Third Team and was one of 12 student-athletes that earned All-American honors for the second time in their careers.
"For the second straight year, Ali has been recognized as one of the best players in the country," said head coach Iain Byrne. "Being an All-American is the highest honor, and he has been one of our most popular players to date. We are all so pleased for him."
Somow becomes the fourth player to earn All-American multiple times, the first since Roberto Ventura in 2019. The Utica, N.Y. native was named to the All-SUNYAC First Team and the NCAA All-Region III First Team earlier this offseason, something he also accomplished last season.
The senior started 17 games for the Red Dragons and led the team with 21 points, finding the back of the net seven times while tallying the team-high seven assists. He was tied for third in the conference in assists, finished eighth in points and 12th in goals.
Somow recorded three game-winning goals in SUNYAC play against Oswego, Potsdam, and Morrisville. His game-winner against the Lakers happened in the 82nd minute, while he found the back of the net in the 88th minute against the Mustangs.
Oneonta finished the season 11-3-4 and made an appearance in the SUNYAC semifinals.
This year's All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony on Saturday, January 11, 2025 in Chicago, Ill., in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
