New Paltz Sweeps Swimmer of the Week Honors
Senior Pete Nastasi and junior Carly Marshall and senior Pete Nastasi have been selected as the SUNYAC Men's and Women's Swimmer of the Week for the week ending Jan. 8, 2012.
Nastasi won twice this past week against stiff competition, as New Paltz placed first out of two teams at the Bradenton Invitational on Wednesday before succumbing to the Savannah College of Art and Design, 119-78, on Friday. He won the 50 breaststroke at the Bradenton Invitational with a long-course meter time of 34.41, topping a field that included an elite Massachusetts Institute of Technology team. He then won an event and placed as a runner-up in a second against perennial NAIA power Savannah College of Art and Design on Friday, clocking a first-place standard in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.74) and a second-place time in the 200 individual medley (2:07.62).
Marshall boasted a pair of first-place finishes and a pair of second-place finishes on the week, as the Hawks placed first out of two teams at the Bradenton Invitational on Wednesday and fell to the Savannah College of Art and Design, 115-90, on Friday. At the Bradenton Invitational, which included the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she placed first in the 50 butterfly (33.41) and second in the 50 breaststroke (41.01), both of which were swum in long-course meters. She then won the 200 butterfly (2:17.62) against the Savannah College of Art and Design on Friday and participated on the Hawks' second-place 400 medley relay team that clocked a 4:16.21.
