Six Bears Women earn CSC At-Large Academic All-District honors

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Six SUNY Potsdam women student-athletes have earned spots on the College Sports Communicators At-Large Academic All-District Team. The teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom. The at-large category includes multiple sports. Women's hockey players Alana Palameta (Windsor, Ontario/Morrisville State), Sara Barrett (Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) and Alex Quinn (Potsdam, N.Y./St. Lawrence Steel) and women's lacrosse players Kalli Hewitt (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Schuylerville), Mallory Marks (Brownville, N.Y./General Brown) and Anita Reitano (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) claimed the allotted six spots.
To be eligible for a nomination, athletes need to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA, be a sophomore and have participated in at least 90 percent of their team's contests or started in 66 percent.
Palameta, a senior defenseman, played in 23 games this season. She recorded four assists. In her two winters in Potsdam, Palameta has six assists in 35 games.
Barrett, a junior forward, played in all 24 games during 2023-24. She scored two goals. In three years and 72 games with the Bears, she's totaled 15 points on seven goals and eight assists.
Quinn, a graduate student defenseman, earns all-district honors for the second season in-a-row. The assistant captain led the Bears with 11 assists this season and was second in scoring with 12 points. In four seasons, she has 36 points on 16 goals and 20 assists.
Hewitt, a senior defender, started all 14 games for the Bears this season. She had 12 ground balls and six caused turnovers. Over three springs, Hewitt started 38 of the 44 games she played. She collected 23 ground balls, two draw controls and caused 12 turnovers.
Marks, a junior midfielder, was third on the lacrosse team in scoring this season. She had 22 points on 18 goals and four assists. She also recorded 19 ground balls, 27 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers. She was third team All-SUNYAC last season. In her three seasons, Marks has 65 points on 56 goals and nine assists along with 64 ground balls, 153 draw controls and 26 caused turnovers.
Reitano was also all-district last season. The attack is the lacrosse program's all-time leading scorer with 234 points. She ranks second in goals (144) and assists (90) and first in man-up goals (17) and free-position goals (40). In addition to scoring, Reitano has 45 ground balls, 23 caused turnovers and 13 draw controls in 62 games. She started all 14 contests this season and led the Bears with 33 goals and 23 assists for 56 points. Reitano was third team All-SUNYAC in 2022, when she set the Bears single-season scoring record with 76 points.
