NABC Announces 2014 Awards
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III All-District Teams and Coaches have been named and the State University of New York State Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has numerous athletes who made first and second teams as well as the Coach of the Year.Â
John Ivy of the College at Brockport has been named to the 2014 NABC Coaches' Division III All-America First Team.n He was also named the East District Player of the Year as well as honored on the East District First Team. Ivy, the SUNYAC Player of the Year, led Brockport with 21.3 points per game before being injured with three games left in the regular season and missing the final six games of the year. Ivy broke all sorts or records at Brockport including the school record with career points with 1,683.
Gordon Lyons of SUNY Geneseo was named to the All-District First Team. Lyons averaged 18.1 points per game and also averaged 11.9 rebounds per game which ranked him ninth nationally. Lyons was also ninth in the nation with sixteen double-doubles.
Kevin McMahon of SUNY Cortland and Justin Mitchell of Buffalo State made the NABC All-District Second Team. McMahon led Cortland this season with 18.5 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. He also led the Red Dragons with 27 blocked shots and finished the year with 11 double-doubles. Mitchell led the Bengals in scoring and rebounding and was third and fifth in the SUNYAC, averaging 20.5 and 8.8 respectively. He was also second in the league with 38 blocked shots.
Greg Dunne the head Coach for the Brockport Golden Eagles and the SUNYAC Men's Basketball Coach of the Year received All-District Coach of the Year honors. Dunne led Brockport to a 24-4 overall record and was the top seed in the conference coming out of the regular season and then went on to win the SUNYAC Championship.
Ivy was also named the d3hoops.com player of the year and honored on their first team while McMahon and Lyons were named to the d3hoops.com second team.
