Miklakos, Shiller and Bonfield Earn SUNYAC Men's Ice Hockey Weekly Honors
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC has chosen Geneseo's Stefan Miklakos as this week's Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week while Plattsburgh's Eli Shiller and Ryan Bonfield were honored as the Goaltender and Rookie of the Week respectively.
Miklakos was vital as the Knights earned a pair of victories and a draw in three non-conference games last week. He scored four goals and tallied one assist across the three games. Against Elmira, Miklakos scored a power-play goal to open the game and give the Knights a lead. Against Amherst, he added a goal and an assist as the Knights earned a 3-3 draw. On Sunday against Williams, Miklakos put the Knights on the board with a short-handed goal and added the overtime game-winner for a 4-3 victory.
Shiller fashioned a .982 save percentage and a 0.50 goals-against average, helping Plattsburgh win the FirstLight Shootout championship with a 2-0-0 week. For his efforts during the tournament, Shiller was named the Tournament MVP. He posted a 23-save shutout in a 5-0 win over Middlebury College on Friday before making a career-high 31 saves in a 3-1 victory over No. 9 Norwich University in the championship game on Saturday. For the season, Shiller leads the SUNYAC in save percentage (.970) and goals-against average (0.75).
Bonfield recorded three assists and fashioned a +4 rating in a 2-0-0 week for the Cardinals, helping them win the FirstLight Shootout championship. For his efforts during the tournament, he was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Rookie. Bonfield doled out two assists in the Cardinals' 5-0 win over Middlebury College on Friday before notching an assist in a 3-1 victory over No. 9 Norwich University in the championship game Saturday. For the season, Bonfield is tied for fourth in the SUNYAC in assists with six and has seven points total on the year.
