SUNYAC Releases 2025 Men's Indoor Track & Field Annual Awards
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC announces its 2025 Men's Indoor Track & Field Track Athlete of the Year, Field Athlete of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coaching Staff of the Year awards as voted on by the 12 conference coaches.
Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year – Josh Jeffes, Cortland
Jeffes captured two SUNYAC titles this year in the 200 and 400-meter runs. He was also the AARTFC champion in the 4x200 and No. 1 in the Niagara region in the 200, 400, 4x200 and 4x400 events. Jeffes and his teammates went on to win the 2025 national championship in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:12.59. The Cortland quartet broke its own school record of 3:12.87 set previously this year. Jeffes also was an All-American in the 400-meter dash with a sixth-place national finish.
Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year – Amarian Hughes, Cortland
Hughes repeats as the SUNYAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year after winning the 2025 NCAA Division III championship title in the triple jump. With a distance of 15.35 meters, he broke his own school record. Hughes also won his second-straight conference title in the triple jump this season. He was named All-Niagara Region in the event as well. Hughes also competed in the long jump finishing in third place at the conference championship and he was ranked tied for 32nd in Division III.
Men's Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year – Ayobami Adebayo, Oneonta
Adebayo was the 2025 SUNYAC champion in the high jump. He also finished fifth in the triple jump and 19th in the long jump at the conference championship meet. Adebayo was named the SUNYAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Meet after compiling the most points among first-year competitors at the league meet. He was the runner up in the high jump at the AARTFC meet clearing 1.98 meters and 9th in the long jump.
Men's Indoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year - Cortland
Steve Patrick is the head coach of the Cortland men's track and field team and he is assisted by Chad Dunham, Peter McGinnis, Curtis Merrick, Maris Seabury, Mitch Makowski and Marissa Formes-Patrick. The staff coached their team to the program's ninth overall men's indoor track and field conference crown and first since 2016. There were 18 Cortland student-athletes named to the SUNYAC Men's All-Conference teams for finishing in the top three at the league championship meet. The Red Dragons claimed two national titles as the SUNYAC Field Athlete of the Year Amarian Hughes won the triple jump and the Track Athlete of the Year Josh Jeffes and his team Evan Jensen, Zion Cheatham, and Harrison Gavalas won the 4x400-meter relay at the 2025 NCAA Division III championship meet. Cortland finished fifth in the final team standings with 26 points.
