Cortland Voted No. 1 in 2026 SUNYAC Softball Preseason Poll
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Cortland takes the top spot in the 2026 SUNYAC softball preseason poll while Oneonta is ranked No. 2 and Buffalo State is No. 3. The poll is voted on by the 10 league coaches.
Cortland was the top seed after regular season conference play last season finishing 16-2. The Red Dragons went on to win the league championship title for the 17th time overall and first time since 2019. Cortland went 2-2 in the NCAA Division III regional to finish the 2025 season 25-16 overall.
Oneonta was seeded fifth in the conference going into the 2025 post season. The Red Dragons played their way to game 8 in the SUNYAC tournament, but fell short, 4-3, to undefeated Cortland in the double elimination round. Oneonta went 3-2 in the tournament and ended its season 20-19 overall. In 2026, the team will compete to win the program's fifth overall SUNYAC softball title and its first since 2014.
Buffalo State went 14-4 in regular season conference play to clinch the No. 3 seed going into post season play last season. The Bengals went 2-2 in the SUNYAC tournament to end their season 22-17 overall. Buffalo State will play to win its first conference title since 2009 and capture its fifth all-time softball league trophy.
Conference competition will begin April 3 and the 2026 SUNYAC softball championship tournament is set for May 7-9.
