SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC releases its last spring athletes of the week with Softball Athlete of the Week and Pitcher of the Week selections.
Softball Athlete of the Week - Emma Budzinski, Oswego
Budzinski powered the Lakers offense this weekend to three confernece wins earning them a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 2019. In 16 at bats she scored 6 runs, tallied 8 hits with a double, triple, and 4 home runs driving in 10 runs. She hit for an average of .500 with .500 OBP and 1.483 SLG. She also swiped a base and had 14 putouts.
Softball Pitcher of the Week - Alex Frenza, New Paltz
Frenza threw her third no-hitter of the year in a 5-0 shutout victory over Union Tuesday, pitching a complete game seven innings, giving up a single walk in a near perfect performance with 10 strikeouts. She then threw a complete game seven innings in a 3-0 shutout over Oneonta Friday, allowing just two hits and one walk, while matching a career-high 14 strikeouts. She then came in relief in Game 2 against Onenota and picked up the win after tossing the last 1.2 innings in a tied game that finished 7-1 in favor of the Hawks. Over the course of her three appearances on the week, Frenza allowed just three hits and two walks with 27 strikeouts in 15.2 innings pitched, having a k/7 of 12.06, ERA of 0.00 and WHIP of .32.
