SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships set for Feb. 17-20
CORTLAND, N.Y. -Â The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) swimming and diving teams will travel to Buffalo, N.Y. for the championship meet, Wednesday, February 17 through Saturday the 20th. The championships will be at the Flickinger Aquatic Center at Erie Community College.
The meet will kick off with the men's 3-meter dive prelims at 2 p.m. on Wednesday and continue at 7:05 p.m. that night with the men's 3-meter dive final. Prelims on each of the following three day's will start at 10 a.m. and the finals will begin at 5:30 p.m. each night. View the complete schedule here.
Last year the Geneseo men (881) won its 22nd overall SUNYAC title and the Geneseo women (953) captured its eighth straight team title.
Geneseo's Abigail Max took the Women's Swimmer of the Meet award after winning the women's 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, and 500 freestyle. Fredonia's Meghan Bartlett took home the Women's Diver of the Meet honors after finishing first in the 1 and 3-meter diving finals. Oneonta's Chris Schuler-Ghiorse was named the Women's Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year after leading her team to a second place finish.
The Men's Swimmer of the Meet went to Geneseo's John Nasky, who took the men's 500 freestyle and 1650 freestyle events. Geneseo's Samuel Randall took the Men's Diver of the Meet award after placing place in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. The Men's Coach of the Year went to Cortland's Brian Tobin after leading his team to a second place finish.
Geneseo and Coach Paul Dotterweich look to continue their streak as the women go for their ninth consecutive title and 24th overall and the men look to take their 18th title in 20 years. Cortland men and women have the second most team titles with seven for the men (last in 2013) and four for the women (last in 1989). Oswego women broke up Geneseo's 15-year streak three years in a row in 2005-07. View the complete history of champions here.
Tickets are available online and will also be sold at the door for all sessions. Adult tickets are $6 per session or $30 for an all-sessions pass. Children ages 6-12 are $3 per session or $15 for an all-sessions pass. Children five and under and SUNYAC students with a school ID are free. Heat sheets ($2) and programs ($5) will be available at the entrance. Tickets for both sessions of men's 3-meter diving on Wednesday, February 17 will be available for $6.
