SUNYAC Announces 2013 Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams and Individual Awards
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the Women's Basketball Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year and All-Conference Teams as voted on by the conference coaches.
Geneseo senior guard Melissa Graham (Orchard Park, NY) has been named the 2013 SUNYAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year. Graham helped lead her team to a No. 2 conference finish and a SUNYAC Championship game appearance. She finished the season with 327 points, 218 rebounds, 81 assists, 35 steals and 28 blocks.
Geneseo freshman forward Allison McKenna (Huntington, NY) has been chosen as the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year. McKenna played in every game for the Knights and started in all but one. She led her team and was second in the conference with 59 blocks. In her first year, McKenna totaled 307 points and 199 rebounds to help her team to the SUNYAC Championship game.
New Paltz’s Jamie Seward has been selected as the SUNYAC Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year for the first time in his seven years as head coach. Seward guided the Hawks to their first SUNYAC title in the history of the program. New Paltz (24-3, 16-2 SUNYAC) will see its season continue on in the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Tournament, as the Hawks earned the SUNYAC's automatic bid into the event. The Hawks will square off with Babson College in the first round at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 1, on the campus of Tufts University.
