Cortland Wins 2026 SUNYAC Baseball Championship
CORTLAND, N.Y. - Cortland beat Oswego, 4-3 in the ninth to win its second straight and 38th SUNYAC baseball championship title, Saturday at Cortland's Robert H. Wallace Field. With the win the Red Dragons earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament.
Oswego defeated Cortland in the first game of the championship series, 11-1 on Friday. Immediately following game one, the Red Dragons topped Oswego, 11-5 in game two to force a game three on Saturday.
Danny Jackson was named the Tournament MVP after accumulating 12 hits, with two doubles and and a homerun in the semifinal and final series. He added 5 RBI including the game winning run on a single in the bottom of the ninth inning of the championship game.
Elite 20
The SUNYAC Elite 20, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
This year Oswego's Emil Sander is the SUNYAC Baseball Elite 20 winner. Sander is a senior anthropology major with a 3.92 overall GPA.
