Nolan Smith Honored with SUNYAC Baseball Scholar Athlete of the Year Award
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Cortland's Nolan Smith has been voted the 2026 SUNYAC Baseball Scholar Athlete of the Year. This award is nominated and voted on by the conference sports information directors.
In 2026, Smith was named Second Team All-Region DH by both the ABCA and D3baseball.com. Prior to that he was selected to the First Team All-SUNYAC. In his junior year, Smith batted .336 with five homers, 14 doubles, 28 walks, 47 RBI and 32 runs scored despite starting in only 31 of 43 games due to an injury. He helped Cortland repeat as SUNYAC regular-season and tournament champion and make the program's 33rd straight NCAA tournament appearance.
Smith is a psychology major holding a 3.63 overall GPA. This season he was named CSC District 3 Academic All-District and has been recgonized on the SUNYAC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll the last two years.
In order to be eligible for the SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year award student-athletes must prove both academic and athletic excellence by obtaining a minimum 3.30 overall GPA, be a starter or significant reserve for their team, and be at least a sophomore. The SUNYAC Scholar Athlete Award began in 2016-17.
