Tama and Rice Tabbed SUNYAC Field Hockey Athletes of the Week
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC selects New Paltz's Rachel Tama and Cortland's Madison Rice as its Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week respectively.
Tama set a single game program record with five goals and 11 points against Morrisville Saturday, including what was the game-winner in the 12-2 victory in the Hawks' SUNYAC opener. Tama also earned an assist in a 4-3 overtime win against Kean Wednesday.
Rice spearheaded a Cortland unit that did not allow a shot on goal in two home victories. On Wednesday versus 19th-ranked Rochester, Rice helped the Red Dragons limit Rochester to just four off-target shots, and she personally limited Rochester's leading scorer, Hannah Mehta, to just one shot as Cortland won 1-0. Rice's outlet pass helped set up Cortland's first-quarter goal. On Saturday, Cortland held Oswego without a shot in an 8-0 victory as the 10th-ranked Red Dragons improved to 9-0 on the season.
