SUNYAC honors athletes of the week for swimming, diving and ice hockey
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced weekly honors to three ice hockey student-athletes and four swimming and diving student-athletes for their performances during the week of Nov. 2-8.
FEMALE DIVER OF THE WEEK - Meghan Bartlett (JR)
Fredonia (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown)
A junior from Johnstown, N.Y., Meghan Bartlett won both boards Nov. 7 during Fredonia's home dual meet with Geneseo. Her winning total of 357.25 points in the 1-meter was an NCAA provisional qualifying score and 6-dive personal-best. She won the 3-meter with 257.05 points.
FEMALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK - Sam Rokos (SR) Â
Fredonia (Delanson, N.Y./Duanesburg)
A senior from Delanson, N.Y., Rokos won three individual events Saturday during Fredonia's home dual meet vs. Geneseo. Her winning 50-yard freestyle time of 25.39 seconds was a season-best. She also won the 100-yard freestyle in 55.27 seconds. In her first attempt this season at the 400-yard individual medley, she finished six seconds in the clear with a winning time of 4:50.16.
MALE DIVER OF THE WEEK - Arron Carlson (JR)
Fredonia (Leroy, N.Y./Notre Dame)
A junior from LeRoy, N.Y., Arron Carlson was a double winner in Fredonia's home dual meet vs. Geneseo. His winning scores were 278.70 points off the 1-meter board and 312.80 points off the 3-meter board. Both scores exceeded the NCAA provisional qualifying standards.Â
MALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK - Tyler Zapisek (SR) Â
Potsdam (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee)
Bears' senior captain Tyler Zapisek swam to three solo victories in the team meet with Norwich University Saturday. He took the 200 fly with a time of 2:08.29 and touched the wall first in the 200 Backstroke (2:08.02) and the 100 Individual Medley (58.69).
ICE HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Trevor Hills (JR) Â
Geneseo, F (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Berkshire School)
Trevor Hills totaled six points on four goals and two assists to lead the Knights to back-to-back victories over Canton. In Friday's 7-4 victory, Hills' short-handed tally in the third period completed his first collegiate hat-trick and also proved to be the game-winning goal on a night that also saw him add two assists. In Saturday's 4-3 win, Hills tied the game in the third period with his third power-play goal of the season as the Knights came back from an early two-goal deficit.Â
ICE HOCKEY GOALIE OF THE WEEK - Drew Weigman (SO) Â
Cortland, Goaltender (Gaithersburg, MD/Northern Cyclones)
Drew Weigman turned aside 41 shots as Cortland upended #7 Oswego, 4-2, in SUNYAC action on Friday night. The win over the Lakers was the first for the Red Dragons since Jan. 20, 2006 and evened Cortland's record at 1-1-1 overall and in the conference. For the game, Weigman recorded a .953 save percentage. He raised his season save percentage to .924 and lowered his GAA to 3.12.
ICE HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Danny Liscio (FR) Â
Morrisville, F (Hometown:Â Woodbridge, Ontario)
Danny Liscio had a hand in a 1-1 weekend for the Mustangs, as he tallied four points on two goals and two assists. Liscio notched a goal and assist in each contest and Friday night was +2 on the ice for the Mustangs.
