ECAC Men's Soccer All-Stars released
The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2014 Division III Upstate Men's Soccer All-Star teams on Tuesday. The Oneonta Men's Soccer team took home three top accolades. Junior Dylan Williams (Monroe, N.Y.) was named Offensive Player of the Year, freshman Corey Santangelo (Sayville, N.Y.) was voted as Rookie of the Year, and Red Dragons' head coach, Iain Byrne, was named ECAC Coach of the Year.
Coach Byrne, in his 12th year at the helm of the Oneonta program, led the Red Dragons to a 21-1-2 record and reached the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer semifinals, where they were handed their lone defeat. Oneonta won its third SUNYAC Championship in the last four years (eighth overall) and notched its fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance leading his team to the semifinals.
Dylan Williams took home the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year award. Williams helped lead a Red Dragon squad by scoring eight goals and assisting on eight others in 23 games this season. The junior was previously named the 2014 SUNYAC Offensive Player of the Year back in November and earned SUNYAC 2014 All First-Team.
Corey Santangelo was honored as the ECAC Rookie of the Year. The freshman forward notched a team-high 14 goals on the season to help a potent Oneonta offensive squad to a NCAA Division III semifinals appearance.
Williams was also named to the ECAC First Team, along with Oneonta teammate Jake Sutherland (Jr, Forward), Cortland's Darren McCormack (Sr., Midfield), Ole Toepfer (Jr., Forward), and Tim Beauvais (Sr., Goalkeeper), and Plattsburgh's Alexis Archilla (So., Forward).
