New Paltz’s Rometo and Buffalo State’s Pezdek Earn SUNYAC Recognition
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – New Paltz's Jackie Rometo and Buffalo State's Izzy Pezdek have been named SUNYAC Softball Athletes and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their outstanding performances on the field.
The awards were announced on Monday, March 31, for contests played from March 24-30.
Rometo had a record-breaking weekend, helping the Hawks to their first home win of the season. She went 4 for 6 with three runs scored, two RBI and a walk as the Hawks split a twinbill with Farmingdale.
Rometo recorded the walk-off game-winner in Game 2 of the twinbill and became New Paltz's all-time hits leader with 176 career. She went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in game one against Farmingdale before going a perfect 2 for 2 with two runs, a double, two RBI, and two walks in Game 2.
Rometo led her team with a .667 batting average and a 1.000 slugging percentage while securing the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to help New Paltz capture an 8-7 victory. Defensively, she was flawless in centerfield.
Pezdek had a dominant showing coming in relief for the Bengals, picking up two victories as Buffalo State swept Brockport in a doubleheader. In Game 1, she tossed five shutout innings, allowing just one walk while striking out six batters. She followed that up with three more shutout innings in Game 2, surrendering just one hit and one walk while striking out two. Pezdek's strong performances helped the Bengals sweep the Golden Eagles in a non-conference doubleheader.
