Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field SUNYAC Awards Announced
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced its annual outdoor track and field individual award winners. All-Conference is made up of the individual first and second place finishers at the SUNYAC Championship. The top ten male and female overall point getters in both track and field events at the SUNYAC tournament are considered for the Most Outstanding Athlete Award. The winners are voted on by the conference coaches.

Sean Bernstein, Outstanding Male Track Athlete of the Year
Sean is a senior, history major at SUNY Oneonta. He is from Baldwinsville, NY and previously attended C.W. Baker High School. Bernstein currently holds the school record in the indoor 200m dash along with the outdoor 100m and 200m dash. At this year’s SUNYACs, Sean took first in the 100m dash (10.54) and 200m dash (21.14). Sean’s 200m dash preliminary time of 20.97 broke the SUNYAC meet record set by Amaan Sideeeqq (Cortland) in 2008. Bernstein also ran a leg in Oneonta’s 4x100m relay winning team. The team ran a time of 41.22. Their time broke the previous meet record of 41.50 set by Buffalo State in 2011. Sean’s fastest time for the 100m this season has been 10.54 and 20.97 for the 200m dash. During the 2013 outdoor season, he has come in first place in 12 out of the 14 events he competed in. Bernstein currently has the second fasted time in the nation of 10.43 for the 100m dash. He also has the second fastest time in the nation for the 200m dash (20.97). His 200m dash time is just one one-hundredths of a second off the fastest runner, Thurgood Dennis of Wisconsin Eau-Claire with 20.96.
Jazmin Dunham, Outstanding Female Track Athlete of the Year
Jazmin Dunham is a Buffalo State junior studying health and wellness. She is from Rochester, NY. Dunham medaled in three events at the 2013 SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Jazmin took first place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.15. Her winning time broke the previous SUNYAC meet record of 14.32 set by Monique Hacker (Binghamton) in 1977. Jazmin finished second in the 100m dash (12.34). Dunham also had a second place finish in the women’s 200m dash (24.61). Dunham medaled in 12 of 14 events she competed in this season. She ran the fastest time of her career this season in the 100m dash (12.15) and 100m hurdles (14.15). Dunham currently holds the sixth fastest time in division III for the 200m with her SUNYAC championship time of 24.61. She is also ranked fourth nationally for 100m high hurdles (14.15), which she also achieved at the SUNYAC championships.
Ben Depo, Outstanding Male Field Athlete of the Year
Ben Depo is a senior at Plattsburgh State. He is from Saranac, NY. Depo is ranked eighth nationally in division III outdoor track and field in regards to decathlon points. His top ranked performance was made at the Cortland Classic Invitational where he tallied 6277 points. Ben won the SUNYAC title for the men’s decathlon. He accumulated 6,176 points which was a 378 point lead from the second place finisher. This season, Depo achieved his best career performances in the 100m (11.41) and the pole vault (3.75m).
Nicole Jones, Outstanding Female Field Athlete of the Year
Nicole is from West Charlton, NY. She is currently a senior at Brockport State, majoring in business administration. Nicole Jones medaled in three SUNYAC championship events. Nicole was the SUNYAC champion in the shot put (13.10m). Jones placed second in the hammer throw with 48.94m. Lastly, she was a silver medalist in discus throw (41.65m). This outdoor season, Jones achieved her best career throws for the discus (41.65m) and hammer throw (48.94m). Nicole medaled in 11 of 14 events that she competed in during the season. Leading into the 2013 SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Jones had the top performance in the conference for the shot put (13.25m). She had the second best performance for the hammer throw (48.94m) and third best for the discus (41.65m).
Steve Patrick, Women’s Coach of the Year and Men’s Coach of the Year
Steve Patrick, Cortland State’s outdoor track and field coach has been named SUNYAC men’s and women’s coach of the year. The 2013 season marks the sixth season Patrick has been head coach at SUNY Cortland.
Patrick's other accomplishments include being named 2008 Men's Outdoor Track and Field Division III Atlantic Region Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). He won that award again as women's coach for the 2011-2012 season. Patrick previously won SUNYAC Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year awards as women's coach for the 2011 and 2012 seasons. He was named SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Men's Coach of the Year for the 2008 and 2012 seasons.
In the 2013 outdoor season, Steve Patrick had many of his athletes on the top performance lists leading up to the SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The SUNY Cortland women's team took first in the SUNYAC championships with 244 points. The men narrowly beat out Oneonta for the SUNYAC title with 200 points. This marks the second consecutive title win for the Cortland men under the leadership of Steve Patrick and the third consecutive title win for the Cortland women.
