Anna Bissell Named Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Plattsburgh
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Anna Bissell, who has six years of collegiate coaching experience, has been named the head women's lacrosse coach at Plattsburgh, as announced Monday by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Anna to Cardinal Country as our head women's lacrosse coach," Plattsburgh State Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Mike Howard said. "Her years of experience both as an exceptional player and an assistant coach make her an ideal candidate to lead our program. Anna's passion for the game of lacrosse, her commitment to developing successful student-athletes and concise plans for moving our program forward in the coming years were made very clear throughout the interview process. We are deeply committed to continuing to build a very successful women's lacrosse program, and I'm extremely confident in Anna's ability to lead our program in that direction."
Bissell spent this past season as an assistant coach at Centre College, where she helped guide the Colonels to the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament. Six Colonel student-athletes earned All-SAA accolades, while Centre student-athletes combined for five SAA Player of the Week honors and one SAA All-Tournament selection.
Prior to Centre, Bissell spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons as an assistant coach at Amherst College, where she was a part of a program that reached as high as No. 13 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Top-25 Poll. She assisted with the recruitment of two recruiting classes that yielded 15 student-athletes, one of whom was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Rookie of the Year in 2025. Amherst had two USA Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-America honorees, five IWLCA All-Berkshire Region selections and five All-NESCAC recipients during her time on staff.
She gained NCAA Division I coaching experience while serving as the top assistant at Delaware State University, and her first collegiate coaching job was at Methodist University, where she coached during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years.
As an undergraduate student-athlete, Bissell competed at NCAA Division II Lenoir-Rhyne University from 2016-19, helping the Bears win their first South Atlantic Conference (SAC) regular-season championship in program history in 2018.
"I want to thank the hiring committee, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Mike Howard and Vice President of Enrollment and Student Success Karen McGrath for this opportunity and trust in me to lead this program," Bissell said. "The vision for Plattsburgh State Women's Lacrosse is bright, and I look forward to continuing to build a program the Cardinal community is proud of."
Bissell earned her Bachelor of Science in exercise science from Lenoir-Rhyne in 2019 and is currently working toward her Masters in Sports Administration.
