2025 SUNYAC Women's Soccer Top Honors Announced
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC releases its 2025 women's socccer All-Conference teams and annual awards including Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year as voted on by the conference coaches.
Offensive Player of the Year - Sydney Myers, Plattsburgh
Myers, a junior midfielder was named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament team after scoring the game winning goal vs. Fredonia in the semifinals to advance to championship game. The second-seeded Cardinals fought to a 3-2 loss in the final match against No. 1 Cortland. Myers had 13 points in regular season conference play with five goals and three assists. She led the league this season with 27 points overall (11 goals and 5 assists). Myers had a season hight of four goals vs. VTSU-Johnson and totaled five game-winning goals in 2025. Plattsburgh concluded its season with a 10-7-2 overall record.
Defensive Player of the Year - Katie Diem, Cortland
Diem leads the Cortland defense that has allowed just nine goals overall so far this season. She was named to the All-Tournament team and was awarded the Elite 20 award at the SUNYAC championships. The Red Dragons won the 2025 league trophy to earn the programs 11th overall championship win. Diem and her team will travel to Messiah University to face Amherst College in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament Saturday.
Rookie of the Year - Gianna Cirilla, Cortland
In her first season, Cirilla was named the SUNYAC Women's Soccer Tournament MVP after scoring two goals and adding an assist to help her team win the 2025 conference title. She had seven points in regular season conference play and currently has 20 points overall with nine goals and two assists. Cirilla will advance to her first NCAA Division III tournament Saturday when the Red Dragons travel to play Amherst College at Messiah University at 1:30 p.m.
Coaching Staff of the Year - Plattsburgh
In 2025, head coach Whitney Frary and her assistants Sarah Erno and Claire Said led their team to a No. 2 regular season conference finish and advanced to the SUNYAC championship. The Cardinals fought back from a 3-0 deficit, but fell short, 3-2, to No. 1 Cortland in the SUNYAC final. The staff coached five All-SUNYAC selections including the Offensive Player of the Year. The coaching staff guided the 2025 squad to a 10-7-2 overall record; earning five more wins than last season.
