Fredonia's Lefort Adds Academic All-American Award
2013 COSIDA/CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICANS
LEFORT TALKS ABOUT WINNING ECAC HEPTATHLON LAST MARCH
FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Recent Fredonia State graduate Spencer Lefort (Java Center) has been named 2013 Capital One Academic Third Team All-American ® in men's track and cross country.
First selected to the NCAA Division III District 3 New York Region team, Lefort is one of 45 men from across the nation to earn All-American status as chosen from the eight all-district teams.
He is the only SUNYAC student-athlete -- male or female -- named to the Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-American team, and only the fourth this year in all sports.
Lefort raised his athletic profile during the indoor track and field season when he won the ECAC Division III men's heptathlon March 2 at the New Balance Armory in New York City. His winning score of 4,946 points set meet, conference, and school records.
He eventually finished seventh in the event and earned All-American status at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field championship meet. He had competed previously in the men's decathlon at the 2012 D-III outdoor meet.
Lefort's academic success as a triple major -- Accounting, Economics, and Finance -- also caught the eyes of voters, all of whom are members of the College Sports Information Directors of America, a professional organization comprised of SIDs from the United States and parts of Canada. Lefort graduated in May with a grade-point average of 3.65 of a 4.00 scale.
Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.Â
