SUNYAC Athletes Recognized by ECAC
Three State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Player of the Week recipients have been named DIII Metro/Upstate Player of the Week by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) for the week ending September 29. Brockport’s Rachel Malone (Fairport, NY), Potsdam’s Joseph Glackin (Latham, NY) and Oneonta’s Melissa Guglielmo (Somers, NY) were all recognized for their achievements in their respective sports this week.
Sophomore Malone has been selected as the ECAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the week. She broke the Brockport school record for the third time this year, finishing second overall out of 342 runners with a time of 22:01 at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. She competed against Division I schools such as Pittsburgh, Princeton and Rhode Island. Malone topped her own school record by three seconds and was awarded SUNYAC Female Runner of the Week for the third time this season.
Senior goalkeeper, Glackin has been recognized as the ECAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. He posted season-highs of nine and 11 saves to help the Bears end their losing streak and earn two conference ties. Against Oswego on Friday, Glackin made a diving stop in the second overtime to preserve the tie and netted the deciding goal in penalty kicks used to determine playoff positioning. He posted a save percentage of .909 and a goals-against-average of 0.82.
Guglielmo has been named the ECAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the week. The senior forward scored two hat tricks, giving her six goals and 12 points on the week. She scored three goals in a 5-0 win over Westminster College and another three goals in a 3-0 win over Buffalo State College. She has scored 10 goals this season and is tied for second-all time in program history for single-season goals.
