SUNYAC honors spring athletes for the week of Feb. 29-Mar 6
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced its weekly awards honoring six spring athletes for their outstanding performances during the week of Feb. 29-Mar 6.
BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Eric Hamilton (JR) Â
Oswego, INF/C (Liverpool/Cicero North-Syracuse)
Over the course of the weekend Eric Hamilton went 9-for-14 (.643) with five home runs, two doubles, 14 RBI and six runs scored. On Saturday, the junior lead Oswego to a 15-6 win over No. 4 Salisbury. In the game he tallied six RBI on a grand slam, solo home run and a sacrifice fly. In the doubleheader sweep (13-9 and 10-5) on Saturday against Wesley College, Hamilton homered three times while collecting 8 RBI.
BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Tyler Clifford (SR) Â
Brockport (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehow)
Tyler Clifford shut down Mt St. Mary on Friday, allowing only one hit in seven innings pitched while setting a new career high striking out 12 batters. The senior starting pitcher registered three innings in which he struck out the side. Going the first two innings without a single strikeout, Clifford punched out 12 of 15 outs by means of a strikeout while picking up his second victory of the season.Â
MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – John Countryman (SR)
Brockport, Attack (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury)
John Countryman helped lead the Golden Eagles to a win over Clarkson University in their only contest of the week. The senior captain led the offensive efforts with five goals on the day on just eight shots, including the game winner. Countryman also picked up one ground ball in the outing.Â
WOMEN'S LACROSSE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Alanna Herne (SO)
Buffalo State, Attack (Hometown:Â Tonawanda, NY/Tonawanda)
Herne tallied 21 points in the Bengals' first three games of the season, netting 11 goals to go with 10 assists. The sophomore had four goals and two assists in a season-opening loss to nationally-ranked Union, then had four goals and five assists in a 17-11 win at Utica, and had three goals and three assists in a loss to Albright. Herne now has 94 career points in just 20 games

WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jaclyn Beshlian (JR)
Cortland (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh)
Beshlian made six saves and allowed five goals in 56:12 as top-ranked Cortland defeated Clarkson, 15-5, on Saturday in the season-opening game for both teams. Beshlian recorded a 5.34 GAA and a .545 save percentage.
SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK- Sami Hubinsky (SO) Â
Potsdam, Pitcher/Outfield (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls)
In her Bears debut, Hubinsky went 3-for-5 with two walks and four runs scored (.600) in two game in Florida on Sunday. She also allowed no earned runs and struck out eight in 5.2 innings pitched, while getting a no decision in Potsdam's 5-4 walk-off win over Pitt-Greenburg.Â
