Record Season Comes to an End in Heartbreaking Fashion

    Brockport Sports Information Department

SALISBURY, Md. – The College at Brockport women's lacrosse team fell in the National Collegiate Athletic Conference Regional Semifinal to Franklin and Marshall College in heartbreaking fashion.  The Golden Eagles scored four unanswered goals in the second half to erase a four-goal deficit but fell short 11-9.

Brockport trailed 7-3 five minutes into the second half but would outscore the Diplomats 5-1 in the next 10 minutes to tie the game at eight.  Keeley Rice scored two unassisted goals then dished out an assist to Ciara McKeon.  Jessica Boddery capped off the run with two goals of her own, assisted by Hannah Cullen and Rice.

Franklin and Marshall would score two goals less than a minute apart to regain a 10-8 lead with just over ten minutes remaining.  Kelly Wall netted her second goal of the game with 9:23 remaining to cut the score to 10-9.  The Diplomats netted their final goal with less than two minutes remaining to take the 11-9 win.

Makensie Schuber started the scoring early, scoring Brockport's first goal less than two minutes in.  Samantha Dooling took advantage of a quick pass from Andrea Zlinsky to score Brockport's second goal of the game.  Franklin and Marshall went on a 5-0 run to jump out to a 6-2 lead with five minutes remaining in the first half.  Wall crashed the crease and scored with 23 seconds remaining in the half to cut the score to 6-3.

McKeon won seven draw controls for the Green and Gold.  Wall caused two turnovers while Schuber, Katie Curran, Cassandra Minerd and Ashley Tack contributed one each.  Wall, Schuber, Curran, Minerd, Tack and Andrea Zlinsky each tabbed one ground ball.

Rice led the offense with four points off of two goals and two assists.  Wall and Boddery each tabbed two goals while Schuber, McKeon and Dooling had one goal.  Zlinsky and Cullen each tabbed one assist.

In the net, Sara Shaddock tabbed six saves in 60:00 minutes of play.  Brockport beat the Diplomats in draw controls by a tally of 12-10.  Franklin and Marshall outshot the Golden Eagles 25-20.

The Golden Eagles finish the season with an overall record of 15-4 and 6-2 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference.  Under Head Coach Steve Wagner, the Golden Eagles set a Brockport record with 11 consecutive games won this season and was consistently nationally ranked in the Top 25, peaking at No. 9.
