Huppee and Martens Named SUNYAC Women's Volleyball Athletes of the Week
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Emily Huppee from Morrisville takes her second SUNYAC Women's Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week honors this season. Cortland's Mikenzie Martens is the conference's Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Huppee once again proved to be an effective force for the Mustangs in a 2-1 weekend at the Oswego State Invitational, leading the offensive unit with a total 63 kills, three service aces, while contributing five blocks and 40 total digs across three matches. She began the weekend with 28 kills against Brockport in the 3-2 match loss, where she registered 13 digs and three assisted blocks. On Saturday the senior posted 17 kills in a 3-1 match win over Hilbert where she hit .382 from the floor. Huppee added 14 digs and two service aces to her totals, before wrapping up the weekend with 28 kills in the 3-1 match win over Utica. In that same match, Huppee hit a weekend best .404 from the floor, averaged 7.0 kills per set, and added a service ace along with 13 digs to her totals. Huppee averaged 4.85 kills per set across the weekend, while hitting .285 from the floor. She averaged 5.3 points per set for the Mustangs.
Martens averaged 6.2 digs per set in a 2-1 weekend for the Red Dragons at the Messiah Invitational. One week after reaching the career 1,000-dig mark, Martens matched her career high with 31 digs and added three aces in a four-set win over the host Falcons on Friday. On Saturday, she totaled 21 digs and two aces in a loss to Gettysburg and 10 digs in a sweep of Rowan.
