Wittman and Martens Named SUNYAC Women's Volleyball Athletes of the Week
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC selects Buffalo State's Ella Whittman as the Women's Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week while Cortland's Mikenzie Martens earns her third straight Defensive Athlete of the Week honors.
Wittman had a strong showing for Buffalo State as the Bengals opened SUNYAC play with a pair of dominant wins over Potsdam and Plattsburgh. In Friday's win over the Bears, Wittman tallied 16 kills with 14 digs and a .481 attack percentage. On Saturday against the Cardinals, Wittman added 12 more kills, four service aces, and a block. She averaged 4.00 kills per set to contribute 4.8 points per set and added 2.71 digs per set over the week.
Martens was a force on the defensive end for Cortland across three matches, registering 47 digs for a 4.70 digs per set average, and added in 16 assists and six service aces across three matches. The senior had a 22-dig performance on Wednesday against William Smith, while also adding nine assists and an ace. Martens then had 16 digs in a sweep over Oswego on Friday evening, while chipping in four assists and an ace. In a sweep of Canton on Saturday, Martens had nine digs, four service aces, and three assists.
