Cortland and Brockport to Play in NCAA Baseball Regionals
The SUNY Cortland and College at Brockport baseball teams have received a berth into the 55-team NCAA Division III playoffs. It is the 19th straight appearance and 20th overall for the Red Dragons, while Brockport is making its third trip to the NCAA Tournament. Cortland had the automatic bid by virtue of winning the conference tournament and the Golden Eagles got into the tournament on at-large bid for the first time.
The Red Dragons (33-8) have been chosen as the top seed in an eight-team regional that the Red Dragons are hosting with the Auburn Doubledays at Falcon Park in Auburn, N.Y. Brockport (27-12) will serve as the No. 4 seed. The double-elimination tournament will begin on Wednesday May 18th.
The Golden Eagles will face fifth-seeded Eastern Connecticut State University in the first game of the tournament at 10 am Wednesday. Cortland will play Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. versus eighth-seeded Mitchell College of Connecticut (23-9-1). The remaining schedule has third-seeded Keystone College of Pennsylvania (32-10) versus sixth-seeded Ramapo College of New Jersey (30-12) at 4:30 p.m. and second-seeded Farmingdale St. College (26-15) versus seventh-seeded Clarkson University (19-17) at 7:45 p.m.
Tournament action continues with four games on both Thursday and Friday, starting at 10 a.m. each day, along with two games Saturday and one, if necessary, on Sunday. The winner of the double-elimination regional advances to the eight-team NCAA Division III World Series, which will be held May 27-31 in Grand Chute, Wis. (near Appleton; south of Green Bay). The World Series will be in Wisconsin for the 12th straight year.
