Joe Brown Named ABCA New York Region Coach of the Year
SUNY Cortland baseball head coach Joe Brown has been selected as the 2011 Diamond/American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) NCAA Division III New York Region Coach of the Year. Brown earned the award for the seventh time overall and the fourth time in the last five years.
Brown led the Red Dragons to a 36-10 record this past spring. Cortland won the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title and made its 19th straight NCAA tournament appearance – the longest active streak nationally in Division III. The Red Dragons finished second at the NCAA New York regional and tied for ninth place nationally.
Through 12 seasons at Cortland, Brown has an overall record of 438-122-2. Prior to the 2011 season, his .781 winning percentage ranked sixth overall and first among active coaches on the NCAA all-division coaching list for coaches with at least 10 years as a head coach.
Brown has guided Cortland to six NCAA Div. III World Series appearances. The Red Dragons finished second nationally in both 2005 and 2010, fourth in 2007, tied for fifth in both 2000 and 2001 and tied for seventh in 2008.
