Chris Chismar Named ECAC Division III Upstate Baseball Pitcher of the Year
CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Sophomore pitcher Chris Chismar (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) of the State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team was chosen as the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate Baseball Pitcher of the Year, as announced Thursday morning by the ECAC. Chismar is New Paltz’s first-ever ECAC Division III Upstate Baseball Pitcher of the Year selection.
In addition, Chismar was named a 2011 ECAC Division III Upstate Baseball All-Star, serving as the lone representative from the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).
Chismar ranked seventh in NCAA Division III in strikeouts per nine innings (11.45) and totaled 78 strikeouts on the season, which ended up as the third-best total in the SUNYAC. He became the first Hawk to earn the Don Axtell SUNYAC Baseball Pitcher of the Year Award following the 2011 campaign, and he also captured First-Team All-SUNYAC laurels. Chismar compiled a 6-4 record and a 2.64 earned-run average in 61 1/3 innings, while opponents batted just .176 against him.
New Paltz achieved an overall record of 20-19 in 2011 and went 9-9 in league action, qualifying for the SUNYAC Baseball Championship Tournament for the first time since 2001.
