Cortland’s Kavanagh and Wagner Named SUNYAC Men's Lacrosse Athletes of the Week
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Cortland's Sean Kavanagh and Travis Wagner have been recognized as the SUNYAC Men's Lacrosse Athletes of the Week after standout performances in a 2-0 week for the Red Dragons, including a win over a nationally ranked opponent.
Kavanagh powered the offense for the Red Dragons in a 2-0 week, scoring nine points on six goals and three assists in the two games. The sophomore netted 4 goals and provided 1 assist on 5 shots on goal in an 11-10 road victory over Skidmore on Saturday. He also scored 2 goals and added a pair of assists as Cortland defeated nationally 11th-ranked St. Lawrence by a score of 10-8 on Wednesday afternoon.
Wagner was dominant in goal, posting 29 saves, a 61.7% save percentage, and a 9.00 goals-against average. His top performance came against St. Lawrence, where he made 17 saves with a 68.0% save percentage, allowing just eight goals to a nationally ranked team. On Saturday, he followed up with 12 saves in a hard-fought victory at Skidmore, shutting them down with a crucial 5-save, scoreless 3rd quarter to fuel Cortland's comeback win.
