Ali Pollock named interim Oneonta lacrosse coach
Oneonta State Director of Athletics, Tracey Ranieri, has announced that Alison Pollock will be the interim women’s lacrosse coach for the upcoming 2012 season. Pollock, who was the top assistant for the Red Dragons last spring, will fill the head coaching position left vacant last month by Jess Pausewang, who took the head women’s position at Div. I Fresno State.
Pollock spent last season as the top assistant coach with Oneonta. A native of Watervliet, N.Y., Pollock graduated from Div. I Monmouth University with a Bachelor of Science degree in health studies in 2010.
In four seasons as a member of the Hawks women’s lacrosse team, she started 69 of 71 games and finished her career seventh in assists (60) and ninth in total points (160). In addition, she led her team in assists for three consecutive seasons (2008, 2009, 2010). She also earned second-team all-Northeast Conference honors three times in her career (2008, 2009, 2010).
During her rookie season in 2007, Pollock started 19 of 20 games and finished with 23 goals and four assists for 27 total points as the Hawks posted a 15-5 record and captured the Northeast Conference title. She served as team captain of the 2010 team and led the Hawks in goals (35), assists (13) and total points (48). In 2009, Pollock set a Monmouth single-game record with an 8-assist performance against Central Connecticut State University and tied another school mark in that game by finishing with 11 total points.
In four seasons, Pollock was a key member of a Hawks team that posted an overall record of 44-30 (.595), including a 26-7 mark against Northeast Conference (NEC) opponents, while advancing to the NEC postseason tournament four times.
Pollock was a member of the 2007 NEC Championship team that qualified for the NCAA tournament. She’s looking to bring that success to her coaching at Oneonta with the hopes of helping the program win a conference title and gain an NCAA bid for the 2012 season.
In other lacrosse news, the Red Dragons are pleased to announce the addition of Stacey Wood as the assistant for the women’s team for the 2012 season. Wood, most recently the assistant at Hartwick College, has spent time at Buffalo State and Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa.
A native of Tonawanda, NY, Wood was a standout athlete on both the lacrosse and soccer teams at Buffalo State. Wood was a three-year starter at defender for the women's lacrosse team from 2003-07. She helped pace the Bengals to a cumulative 35-24 record and a playoff appearance in the 2006 SUNYAC semifinals.
Wood received her bachelor's degree in mass communications in 2008 From Buffalo State.
