SUNYAC Athletes of the Week - November 10, 2025
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC selects its final Women's Volleyball Athletes of the Week and posts its winter Athletes of the Week honoring 16 student-athletes from eight different member institutions for their stand out performances during the week of November 3-9.
Women's Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week - Lauren Millspaugh, Cortland
Millspaugh recorded 18 kills with five errors in 33 attempts for a .394 attack percentage during two non-league matches. She finished with 10 kills and no errors in 14 attempts and added six blocks in a four-set win over Brandeis in a match hosted by William Smith, and she finished with eight kills and four blocks in a four-set loss to the host school.
Women's Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week - Alyssa Rich, Cortland
Rich averaged 4.5 digs per set in a 1-1 non-league weekend for the Red Dragons. She finished with 14 digs in a four-set win over Brandeis and had 22 digs in a four-set loss to William Smith in matches hosted by William Smith.
Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week - Reem Welch, Plattsburgh
Welch's career-high day fueled the Cardinals to an 80-73 win over Skidmore in their only game of the week. Welched poured out a career-high and game-high 36 points to lead the Plattsburgh offense, while shooting 54.5% from the field and 50.0% from the three-point line. He had an all-around performance, grabbing a career-high and team-high 12 rebounds for a double-double, as well as dishing out four assists and collecting a steal.
Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week - Kat McRobbie-Taru, Canton
McRobbie-Taru averaged 17.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 assists per game leading the Roos to an unbeaten start to the season with wins against Franciscan and Delhi. She tied a career-high with 24 points and added 11 rebounds shooting 12-for-23 from the field to go with five blocks, two steals and an assist in an 86-70 win against Franciscan on Friday. The sophomore followed that up with 10 points, five rebounds and two assists in a 95-51 win against Delhi on Sunday.
Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week - Arvega Hovsepyan, Hobart
Hovsepyan led the Statesmen with three points on two goals an an assist in a weekend sweep of No. 7 Utica. On Thursday in Utica, he scored twice as the Statesmen rallied for a victory over the Pionners. He scored the game-winning goal in overtime. On Saturday in Geneva, Hovsepyan had an assist on Hobart's first power-play goal of the game.
Men's Ice Hockey Goaltender of the Week - Gavin McCarthy, Oswego
Sophomore Gavin McCarthy made his frist start of the season on the road against #5 Geneseo. McCarthy had a career day in goal stopping 54 shots from the Knights and keeping the Lakers ahead wth their one goal lead. His performance in goal lead the Lakers to thie first win of the season on the road. TheLakers scored 4 minutes into the second period and McCarthy made sure that one goal lead was enough for a win over a ranked oppoenent.
Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week - Spencer Sasenbury, Canton
Sasenbury scored a pair of goals including the game-winner, in a 4-1 road win at Elmira on Saturday. The rookie gave Canton a 2-0 lead at 8:21 of the second period. He later extended the Roos lead to 3-0 scoring shorthanded in an eventual 4-1 win vs. the Soaring Eagles. The rookie also went 26-for-57 on faceoffs on the weekend and is tied for second on the team with his two goals on the season through four games.
Women's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week - Lucy Beal, Canton
Beal recorded a team-best seven points with seven assists and a +4 on-ice rating leading the Roos to a weekend sweep against MCLA. She opened the weekend with a game-high four points assisting four of the team?s first six goals, with three of those assists being primary assists, in a 9-0 win against the Trailblazers on Friday. The senior closed out the weekend with another game-high three points registering assists on three of the team's five scores in a 5-0 win against MCLA on Saturday. Through games played Saturday (11/8) Beal leads the SUNYAC with eight assists and ranks second with eight points.
Women's Ice Hockey Goaltender of the Week - Magalie Parent, Potsdam
Parent helped the Bears earn a split on the road against No. 12 Elmira College last weekend. On Friday, she stopped 39 shots in a 3-1 loss to the Soaring Eagles. On Saturday, she stopped all 35 shots in a 1-0 shutout upset of Elmira. The contest was the fourth shutout of her career. She closed the weekend with a .961 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against-average.
Women's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week - Taylor Stoll, Canton
Stoll had a big weekend scoring three goals, recording a +3 on-ice rating and going a remarkable 27-for-30 on faceoffs leading the Roos to a weekend sweep against MCLA. She opened the weekend with a pair of goals, her first collegiate scores, in a 9-0 win against the Trailblazers on Friday, while also going 15-for-16 on faceoffs. Stoll followed that up by scoring another goal and going 12-for-14 on faceoffs in a 5-0 win against MCLA on Saturday. Through four games the rookie ranks second on the team with three goals and has gone 40-for-54 on faceoffs.
Men's Swimmer of the Week - Antonio Medina, Oswego
Medina delivered one of the most complete performances of the meet, winning every individual event he entered and showcasing outstanding versatility. He opened with a commanding victory in the 200 freestyle (1:52.25), then followed it up with another decisive win in the 500 freestyle (5:19.02), controlling both races from start to finish. Medina also contributed a strong 23.86 split on Oswego?s winning 200 free relay, helping secure additional team points.
Men's Diver of the Week - Kevin Kohlhoff, Cortland
Kohlhoff won the 1-meter diving event with 276.00 points and finished second on the 3-meter board with 268.10 points during Cortland's home dual-meet loss to Ithaca. His performance on the 1-meter board gives him his second NCAA regional qualifying score of the season, earning him a trip to the NCAA regionals next February.
Women's Swimmer of the Week - Jayna Laferriere, Oswego
Laferriere dominated the sprint and mid-distance freestyle events, going undefeated across the meet while posting the top women?s performances for Oswego. She opened with a decisive win in the 200 freestyle (2:01.24), then captured the 50 freestyle (25.63) with the fastest sprint of the day, and completed her individual sweep with a strong victory in the 100 freestyle (55.75). Laferriere also anchored the winning 200 free relay to close out the meet, securing valuable points and demonstrating leadership in high-pressure moments.
Women's Diver of the Week - Macayla Hodkinson, Oneonta
Senior Hodkinson set a pool record in the one-meter dive at the Hartwick Tri-Meet on Saturday afternoon. She won the event with 239.25 points, which also qualifies for the NCAA Regional Diving Meet. Hodkinson also placed second in the three-meter dive with 190.65 points.
Men's Wrestler of the Week - Jack Ryan, Oneonta
Ryan, the No. 2 nationally ranked 184-pounder, was on the mat for a total of 2:09 as he went 4-0 with four first round falls en route to winning the 184 division and being named most-outstanding wrestler at the Anchorman Invitational at Rhode Island College. He opened the day with a 26 second pin against Rhode Island's Rocco Simone, then he recorded 36 second fall against Simone's teammate, Ethan Silva. Ryan moved on to the finals after pinning his teammate in 22 seconds in the semifinals, and he defeated Rhode Island's Andrew Pappas with a 45 second fall in the championship.
Men's Wrestling Rookie of the Week - George McAteer, Ithaca
First year McAteer had an excellent debut at the Ithaca Invitational finishing second at 133 lbs. as the Bombers won the team title. Seeded No. 16 in the bracket, McAteer took down No. 1 Jack Callahan 6-4 using a pair of takedowns during the first day of competition. He would punch his ticket to the final with another tough 6-4 win over No. 5 seeded Blake Dergham of Pennsylvania College of Technology. With two Bombers in the final, McAteer medically forfeited but was 4-0 on the weekend.
