SUNYAC Athletes of the Week - January 12, 2026
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC selects its winter Athletes of the Week recognizing 13 student-athletes from eight member institutions for their outstanding performances during the week of January 5-11.
Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week - Cam LaClair, Oneonta
Sophomore LaClair led the Oneonta men's basketball team to a 3-0 week in SUNYAC play. He averaged 24.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.7 steals, and recorded two double doubles. He shot a .500 field goal percentage and was .417 for three-pointers. In the 80-72 win over Canton, LaClair led the team with a career-high 28 points and 12 rebounds. He added two assists and converted 3-of-6 threes and was 7-for-7 on free throws. LaClair then scored 26 points with ten rebounds in the 105-80 win at Morrisville. He shot .625 percent from the field and had three assists, two steals, and one block. LaClair concluded the week with 19 points and six rebounds in the 79-75 win at Cortland.
Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week - Kate Grainger, Canton
Grainger averaged a double-double with 15.0 points, 12.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game leading the Roos to an unbeaten 3-0 week in SUNYAC play. She opened the week with 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists shooting 4-for-9 from the field, 1-for-2 on threes and 2-for-2 from the line in a 58-50 road win at Oneonta on Tuesday. The junior tallied 14 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 78-69 win against Plattsburgh on Friday. Grainger closed out the week recording game-highs of 20 points and 18 rebounds to go with two steals and two assists shooting 10-for-12 from the line in an 88-67 victory against Potsdam on Saturday. She now has seven double-doubles in nine appearances this season.
Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week - Kahlil Fontana, Hobart
Fontana led the Statesmen with five points on three goals and two assists in a pair of SUNYAC wins over the weekend. On Friday night, Fontana scored the game's first two goals as Hobart knocked off Cortland 5-2. On Saturday against Morrisville, the senior captain recorded had a goal and two assists in the victory. Fontana leads the Statesmen with 21 points and 12 goals this season.
Men's Ice Hockey Goaltender of the Week - Lenny Perno, Potsdam
Perno when 2-0 with a 1.00 goals-against-average and a .967 save percentage as the Bears swept SUNYAC opponents this weekend. On Friday, he made 26 saves in in a 4-2, come-from-behind win over Buffalo State. On Saturday, he stopped all 32 shots in a 1-0 victory over Fredonia to earn his fourth career shutout.
Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week - Michael Manzi, Oswego
Freshman Manzi made his 6th start of the season for the Lakers and faced off against confernce rival the Cortland Red Dragons. Manzi turned away all 22 shots the Red Dragons took for his first shutout of his career. He is currently second in the conference in GAA (1.72) and save percentage (.933).
Women's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week - Zoe Puc, Plattsburgh
First-year forward Puc delivered a standout performance, recording three goals for her first career hat trick in a victory over Oswego State. Puc netted the game-winning goal as part of her offensive outburst, providing a spark for the Cardinals when it mattered most. Her strong play throughout the weekend earned her a spot on the Norwich East-West Hockey Classic All-Tournament Team.
Women's Ice Hockey Goaltender of the Week - Maddy Stetson, Plattsburgh
Sophomore goaltender Stetson anchored the Cardinals to a 4–0 victory over Oswego State, earning the shutout with a composed and confident performance in net. Stetson turned aside all 22 shots she faced, including several key saves to preserve the clean sheet and control the momentum of the game. Her steady presence between the pipes played a critical role in Plattsburgh's defensive success and overall team win.
Women's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week - Gabi Brazeau, Morrisville
Brazeau earned her first collegiate win in net for the Mustangs Saturday, collecting 34 saves and a .971 save percentage as Morrisville posted the 3-1 victory over St. John Fisher College. Brazeau's efforts included 16 stops in the first period before registering nine apiece in the second and third.
Men's Swimmer of the Week - Conan Young, Pitt.-Bradford
Young had a dominant individual performance against Division II Roberts Wesleyan in a dual meet. Young won all three of his events with each coming in a different discipline. Young won the Mile by just under 2 minutes, posting a time of 18:01.72. He followed that up with a win in the 100-yard butterfly (57.97 seconds) and the 100-yard backstroke (59.56 seconds).
Women's Swimmer of the Week - Joscelyn Cosinski, Oswego
Freshman Coniski delivered Oswego's strongest performance on the women's side, capturing two individual victories in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.48) and 50-yard butterfly (28.79). She was the only Oswego swimmer to win multiple individual events in the meet and added to her impact as a member of the Lakers' second-place 200 freestyle relay.
Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week - Isaiah Slater, Oneonta
Junior Slater won the long jump at the Cornell Southern Tier Invite with a jump of 7.14 meters. It is the second time this season he won the event.
Men's Wrestler of the Week - Jack Ryan, Oneonta
Ryan finished the week 6-0 with four first-round falls, a major decision versus a region ranked opponent, and he recorded his 100th career win as Oneonta went 6-0 in dual matches. The Red Dragon started off 2-0 with a 36-second fall and a forfeit against Penn State Altoona and Keystone at the Giants Tri-Meet. Ryan then ended the week 4-0 in the Manganaro duals at Ursinus College. He defeated Trinity College's Tucker Vician in a 1:01 fall, then the Oneonta 184-pounder beat Josh Nieroda, who is ranked eighth in Region 1, in an 11-0 major. Ryan pinned Logan Reiner in 1:16 to clinch the dual victory over No. 8 nationally ranked Johnson & Wales, and ended the day with a 1:12 fall versus Jagger Gray for his 100th career win as Oneonta beat No. 13 Arcadia. He is currently ranked fifth in the nation at 184 pounds.
Men's Wrestling Rookie of the Week - Juan Roque, Oswego
Roque picked up two individual victories, including a 9–5 decision over Thomas Longo (Wilkes) and an impressive first-period fall (2:16) against Pedro Estrada of UW–Stevens Point, showing his ability to score quickly and finish matches.
